Job SummaryWilberforce University is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Pitching Coach to join our athletics department. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing pitching training programs with a strong focus on player safety and performance enhancement. This role requires a passionate individual who is committed to fostering athletic and personal growth in student-athletes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Develop and Implement Training Programs: Create comprehensive pitching training programs that enhance players’ skills and techniques while prioritizing safety. Safety and Injury Prevention: Emphasize and integrate safety protocols and injury prevention strategies into all aspects of coaching, ensuring the physical well-being of student-athletes. Player Development: Assist players in improving their pitching mechanics, mental approach, and overall performance through individualized coaching and feedback. Game Strategy: Collaborate with the Head Baseball Coach to develop game strategies and make effective pitching decisions during games. Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuously assess and track the progress and performance of pitchers, implementing adjustments as needed for optimal improvement and safety. Recruitment: Participate in the recruitment process to identify and attract talented student-athletes to the program. Mentorship: Serve as a role model, promoting sportsmanship and the university’s values while guiding student-athletes in balancing academics and athletics. Compliance and Regulation: Ensure all coaching activities comply with NAIA regulations, Wilberforce University policies, and best practices for player safety. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum Qualifications Proven experience as a pitching coach, preferably at the collegiate level. In-depth knowledge of pitching mechanics and injury prevention techniques. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with student-athletes, staff, and the broader university community.
