Placement Administrator - Metro Region
The Department of Youth Services (DYS) is the juvenile justice agency for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We work with young people who are detained or committed and provide detention, custody, education and support to young people ages 12-21. Most of the youth served are between the ages 14 and 18. The Department promotes positive change for the youth committed to our care and custody, and has been on the forefront of de-institutionalization, in part, by providing adolescent-focused rehabilitation to youth in residential treatment. The Department of Youth Services employs staff from various professions and backgrounds to engage young people in strategies that support positive youth development. We are seeking a dynamic and energetic individual for the role of Placement Administrator to support the Metro Region located at 425 Harvard Street, Dorchester, MA 02124. The Placement Administrator is responsible for overseeing all placement operations within the region, including intake and discharge for all residential programs in the Metro Region and the coordination of placement of Metro Region youth in programs outside of the region. *The Placement Administrator's duties include, but are not limited to:* * Coordinate the intake and discharge of all residential and secure programs within the Metro Region and coordinate the placement of youth in beds in other regions with the assistance of the Metro Region Detention Coordinators * Maintain accurate lists of all Metro programs’ estimated openings and capacity * Collect referral packets for all committed youth being placed (treatment and revocation) to share with receiving programs * Attend all weekly classification hearings and provide placement guidance to the RRT panel * Serve as Metro Region Liaison to all Court Divisions, Probation Departments, Social Service Agencies, and other important partners to address case specific problems as well as youth movement * Serve as the Metro Region representative to the DYS Victim Services Unit, Policy Committee, Sex Offender Registry, and Interstate Compact * Support the referral and placement of youth into foster care and independent living * Actively participate in weekly Senior Staff Meetings * Serve as the Volunteer/Intern Coordinator and conduct Orientation and Training * Serve as the Regional 504 Coordinator * Serve as the Metro Regional Co-Training Coordinator * Participate in the Metro region primary community on-call rotation *Preferred Qualifications: * * Strong interpersonal, writing communication, and organizational skills in a field directly related to the functions of the Department of Youth Services * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite * Considerable knowledge of State laws pertaining to juvenile laws and juvenile rights * Considerable knowledge of and experience in juvenile/adult corrections * Ability to supervise, motivate, and train subordinate staff * Excellent decision- making ability and time management is critical as decisions must be made promptly and requires good judgement and experienced reasoning * Knowledge of the Laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures governing juvenile justice * Knowledge of the types and availability of public and private organizations providing services to juveniles * Knowledge of the types and application of emergency medical procedures such as basic first aid, and CPR * Trained in restraints and crisis intervention * Knowledge of DYS programming, population data, and internal operations * Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, protocols, specifications, guidelines, and professional standards of assigned unit activities *Minimum Age Requirement: 21 **years. * *Transportation requirement:*Incumbents are required to possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment. *Please note that incumbents into this role are designated as Emergency Personnel.* ** *About the Department of Youth Services:* As the Juvenile Justice agency for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Department of Youth Services promotes positive change in the youth in our care and custody.
