POSITION SUMMARY:

Refinery Value Chain Optimization (RVCO) is seeking a motivated employee with interest in commercial optimization. This position is an entry level position in the commercial organization. The employee will learn how to collaborate with multiple refining and commercial counterparts while learning commercial planning and scheduling skills. The employee will also utilize software such as Aspentech PIMS (Linear programming model) and Aspentech Petroleum Scheduler (APS).

RVCO views this as a knowledge-enhancing role for an employee seeking to learn commercial economics and planning. The role will begin with learning various coordinating/scheduling desks and will progress into learning PIMS LP modeling as dictated by department needs. This position provides the candidate with key economic, planning, and logistics knowledge that will continue to inform decisions for future refining or commercial roles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES and EXPECTATIONS:

Be a strong communicator and interested in developing relationships with commercial partners.Will work heavily in a team environment but also expected to perform individual responsibilities with limited supervision.Demonstrate competencies such as critical thinking, decision making, and continuous learning and improvement.Will work closely with commercial schedulers, traders, and refinery-based personnel.Manage scheduling and coordinating responsibilities independently following sufficient training.Add value by coordinating with key stakeholders to maximize product or feedstock value.  Learn the financial implications of supply coordination across multiple desks. Proactively identifies and communicates commercial/ operational optimization opportunities that improve the refinery’s financial disposition.Learn the commercial aspects of regional refinery operations, including feedstock selection, product and intermediate placement, supply chain optimization, and market analysis.Demonstrate a basic understanding of refinery processes, equipment, and optimization techniques.Participates in collaboration meetings with the value chain to discuss both local and regional economic drivers.Learn fundamental concepts of linear programming (LP) then progresses to developing executable production plans for a single refinery using linear programming simulation models. Modifies production plans as needed to adjust to demand/margin changes. Identifies constraints associated with refinery modeling, uses provided input to develop refinery plans.Train for several backfill responsibilities within the group.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)Minimum of 3 years relevant industry (refining/chemical)Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.Experience in refinery Technical Services or Operations is preferred.A valid driver's license is required.

This position grade may vary depending on candidate experience. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
