What you will be doing
As the Plant Controls Manager, you will oversee the automation and control systems within our facility, ensuring operational reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, optimize system performance, and support production goals.
The position will be based in San Leandro, CA.
Main responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain automated control systems, including PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and SCADA systems.
Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of control systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and communication interface issues.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
Maintain accurate documentation, including system specifications, wiring diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
Train operations and maintenance personnel on control systems and provide ongoing technical support.
Drive operational improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve productivity.
Oversee preventative maintenance programs and ensure system reliability.
Lead capital project development, cost estimation, and execution in alignment with the Annual Operating Plan.
Collaborate with vendors and maintain strong relationships for equipment support and upgrades.
Manage engineering and maintenance teams, assigning tasks, hiring, developing, and evaluating performance.
Ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, EPA).
Communicate operational updates and concerns effectively with employees and management.
What we are searching for
· All other duties as assigned. We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred.
6-8 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment, preferably in the dairy or food industry.
Minimum 3 years of plant engineering/management experience, including financial and project management responsibilities.
Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and SCADA systems.
Strong knowledge of control theory, instrumentation, and process control techniques.
Experience managing capital projects and maintenance budgets.
Proven skills in preventive maintenance and troubleshooting complex control systems.
Familiarity with regulatory standards (NEC, ISA, UL) and industry best practices.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and automated control systems.
Experience with lean manufacturing principles and vendor relationship management.
