Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose:
Direct the plant engineering organization in support of achieving lowest possible competitive costs, advantaged products, and superior quality and service. Manage plant and manufacturing processes and technologies to expand capabilities. Manage improvement portfolios such as capital, cost reduction, and Performance Excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
• Define and successfully manage plant portfolios: capital, cost reduction,
Performance Excellence, etc.
• Define, manage, and support continuous improvement of existing manufacturing
processes.
• Manage and maintain plant facilities. Meet all safety and environmental regulatory
requirements.
• Lead plant involvement in innovation and product development processes to insure
effective transfer of new products and processes to manufacturing.
• Establish a culture that values engineering competency and deployment of the
scientific method.
• Assure growth in talent and capability of the plant engineering staff.
• Build an effective technical network of relationships at the plant, division, and
corporate level.
• Increase the body of knowledge in support of advancing plant and process
technologies and capabilities.
• Champion Performance Excellence and other corporate manufacturing engineering
initiatives as required.
Required Qualifications:
• BS in Engineering
• Significant engineering systems experience in a manufacturing environment required when degree is outside of ME and EE
• 5-7 years of engineering experience in support of a manufacturing environment
• 5-7 years of engineering supervision and/or manufacturing department management
• Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities.
• Progressive responsibilities in engineering and engineering leadership including engineering department supervisor experience.
• Experience leading teams and departments in meeting continuous improvement goals,
• making step change process improvements, managing innovation, and expanding
• technical capability.
• Experience coordinating activities within functional responsibility and collaborating with other groups to achieve results.
• Track record of engineering accomplishment.
• Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others.
• Strong project management skills.
• Change management driver.
• Strong fundamental understanding of the Microsoft Office suite is essential.
• Off-hours may be required to attend meetings or as production or engineering related issues occur to support 24/7 manufacturing operations.
Desired Qualifications:
• M.S. or equivalent technical degree.
•Experience with multiple manufacturing processes.
• Experience in technical collaboration with staff engineering groups, managing capital
projects, and the innovation process.
• Experience in staff or other areas such as Project Management, Quality or
Applications Engineering, Operations, or Performance Excellence.
• Exposure to and understanding of the Technology Community network and
resources.

The range for this position is $169,528.00 - $233,101.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
