Job Summary: The Plant Manager, Locomotive Maintenance & Repair is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, management, and strategic direction of a locomotive maintenance and repair facility. This role ensures high-quality maintenance and repair of locomotives, compliance with safety standards, and efficient utilization of resources to meet operational goals. The Plant Manager will manage a team of skilled technicians, supervise maintenance schedules, oversee budgetary activities, and maintain strong safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facility Operations Management:
o Oversee daily operations of the maintenance and repair facility, ensuring optimal workflow, efficiency, and productivity.
o Ensure all repairs, maintenance tasks, and inspections are completed on time, meeting quality standards and safety regulations.
o Implement and monitor operational procedures to maximize efficiency and productivity in the facility.
o Collaborate with other departments to maintain alignment on operations, production targets, and resource allocation.
2. Team Leadership and Development:
o Lead, motivate, and manage a team of technicians, engineers, and administrative staff.
o Oversee training programs, professional development, and certification requirements for staff.
o Provide coaching and performance evaluations, setting clear objectives and expectations.
o Ensure effective communication across teams to foster a positive work environment and collaboration.
3. Safety and Compliance:
o Ensure the facility adheres to all safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements, including compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other industry standards.
o Implement and enforce health and safety policies and procedures, reducing workplace hazards and ensuring safety for all employees.
o Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, addressing any identified risks promptly.
o Maintain accurate documentation and reports on safety incidents, inspections, and compliance activities.
4. Quality Control and Assurance:
o Monitor and evaluate work quality, ensuring all repairs and maintenance tasks meet customer requirements and are compliant with FRA, AAR, and other industry standards.
o Review inspection and maintenance records to identify and resolve quality issues.
o Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of maintenance services.
o Address any quality issues in maintenance work to prevent equipment failure or delays in service.
5. Budgeting and Financial Management:
o Prepare and manage the facility’s budget, controlling costs, and optimizing resource allocation.
o Monitor and manage expenses related to staffing, parts, equipment, and supplies.
o Forecast and report financial performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
o Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of parts and materials.
6. Maintenance Planning and Scheduling:
o Oversee the scheduling of preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections to minimize downtime and maximize operational reliability.
o Coordinate with dispatch and scheduling teams to optimize locomotive availability and service intervals.
o Track and analyze maintenance data to anticipate repair needs and improve maintenance practices.
o Implement and monitor KPIs related to maintenance schedules, turnaround times, and equipment reliability.
7. Stakeholder and Vendor Management:
o Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, ensuring their needs are met and expectations aligned.
o Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to maintain an adequate inventory of parts and materials.
o Negotiate with external contractors and service providers to ensure cost-effective and high-quality services.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
· 7+ years of experience in maintenance, repair, or operations management, preferably within the transportation or industrial sectors.
· Proven leadership and team management experience, including performance management and development.
· Strong knowledge of locomotive or heavy equipment maintenance and repair practices.
· Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to industrial or transportation facilities.
· Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
· Proficiency in maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in business administration, Industrial Management, or related field.
· Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
· Prior experience in rail or transportation industry facilities management.
This position requires a results-driven individual with strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and a commitment to safety and quality. The Plant Manager will play a crucial role in the facility's ability to meet operational goals.
Compensation Target Range: $115,000 - $145,000 base
plus bonus in addition to base.
