Job Summary/Basic FunctionThe School of Agriculture at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral research fellow (#742010) in plant pathology . This is a one-year temporary appointment. The start date for the appointment is as early as September 9, 2024.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing our understanding of plant pathogens and developing effective biocontrol strategies. Key responsibilities include:
Fungal Culturing and Laboratory Analysis: Cultivate and maintain fungal cultures, and perform laboratory analyses to identify and study plant pathogens. Phytopathogenic and Biocontrol Testing: Conduct experiments to evaluate phytopathogenic effects and biocontrol methods across laboratory, greenhouse, and field settings. Research Participation: Engage in research activities including the optimization of procedures, data collection and analysis, and provide training to undergraduate students involved in the research. Field and Greenhouse Maintenance: Manage raised beds and establish farm testing plots to support ongoing research and testing efforts. Administration and Coordination: Oversee administrative tasks related to field tests, including coordination with local growers and involvement in outreach programs. Required EducationA terminal degree in plant pathology, plant sciences, microbiology, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
Other DesirablesApplicants a strong background in plant pathology, experience with fungal cultures, proven ability to manage and execute both laboratory and field-based research, and excellent organizational and communication skills will receive special consideration.
