The company is interviewing as soon as this week, so I will be in touch ASAP! Summary: The position is for plating reflective surfaces on parts. The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge to work safely around dangerous chemicals, chemically strip metal finishes from items made from a variety of base materials, prepare and plate items made from different base materials based on the technical specification provided by the customer with the following primary processes: Electroless Nickel, Electroplating Nickel and Electroplating Gold. Plater-3 personnel must be able to calculate amperage per square foot requirements for electro-plating, understand and communicate to maskers the appropriate wire racking requirements to attain proper plating results, inspect and trouble shoot plating issues, be able to determine and maintain the proper chemical levels of processing tanks that are used for stripping, preparation and plating; this includes emptying tanks, making up new tanks, adding chemicals to tanks, operating and maintaining filtration systems and performing appropriate tank cleaning techniques. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Work safely around hazardous chemicals, such as hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid and cyanide containing chemical solutions using appropriate safety personal protective equipment. Identifies safety issues and reports to management or Safety Officer. 2. Plater-3 personnel must be able to read work orders/travelers for the plating work instructions and document the plating process values used in the plating process. 3. The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge and skill to operate rectifiers, plating thickness measuring equipment such as an XRF, amps-volts-resistivity meters, amp-hour meters, digital handheld clamp meters, digital micrometers, digital calipers, pH meters, pH indicator papers, chemical and water transfer pumps and hoses, thermometers, digital and analog TDS and Meg Ohm – Cm DI water measuring instruments, and hydrometers for measuring Specific Gravity and Baume. 4. The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge and skill to perform Electroless Nickel Plating and Electrolytic Bright Nickel and Gold Plating. 5. The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge and skill to properly clean and activate various base metals. This includes using degreasers, different types of cleaners and soaks, cathodic and anodic cleaning, pickling, proprietary activators, bright dips, and proper rinsing. 6. The Plater-3 position requires that items may need to be properly stripped of prior metal finishes, such as various types of metal coating, paint, and oxidation coatings prior to plating. A person in the Plater-3 position must be able to determine appropriate stripping techniques for these items that are made from a wide variety of base materials that will remove the necessary finish, without damaging the item. 7. **Masking:** A Plater-3 must understand appropriate masking of parts to be plated in order to achieve the required satisfactory results. The position requires an individual to understand when to use the following types of masking and perform if needed: · Caps (used for studs, tube ends, and slotted holes) · Plugs (used for both threaded and non-threaded holes) · Flangeless Plugs (used for threaded holes) · Washer Caps (used for concentric masking around studs) · Wet or Liquid Masks (used for unusually shaped areas) · Tape (used for larger areas) 8. **Racking:** The Plater-3 position requires the knowledge and skills to properly fasten items to racks for stripping, cleaning, and plating, as well as selection of appropriate racks, use of the best fastening method and/or wiring method, and selection of the appropriate fastening material(s). The Plater-3 must also instruct assisting personnel in proper racking techniques for individual projects or jobs. 9. **Plating and Maintenance:** A Plater-3 must demonstrate proficiency by determining the required plating time, rinsing, setting correct amperages, and using tank techniques to achieve required plating thickness and adhesion according to the specifications provided by the customer, and specified on the company Work Order/Traveler. The Plater-3 must be able to determine if the plating process is functioning properly and advise and confer with the Supervisor and/or the Technical Process Manager or Engineer to determine the steps that are required to remedy process nonconformities and perform the steps accordingly.
