Plateroom Operator (Part-Time)

The Times Union, a division of Hearst and the largest media organization in New York’s Capital Region, is looking for an energetic person to work Part-Time in their Computer-to-Plate (CTP) Imaging Department.

The primary responsibility of this position is to proof incoming page files, manage electronic page flow prior to the laser-imaging of printing plates to be installed on a KBA Commander 4-color web offset newspaper press. The Plateroom Operator uses pre-press software applications to operate state-of-the-art AGFA CTP (computer-to-plate) imagers, processors and Nela vision benders to produce press-ready aluminum printing plates. In addition, this position works with press personnel to maximize print quality, performs cleaning and general maintenance of plateroom equipment, restocks raw materials, and performs light pagination of classified, legal, recruitment and obituary pages.

Position Requirements: Some knowledge of Adobe, Microsoft Word and Excel and other computer-related software programs are preferred, but not required. Specialized computer software and equipment operation training will be provided. Effective and professional communications with coworkers in other departments and outside commercial print customers is critical to the success of the person filling this position. A high school diploma is required, and experience with computer applications is a plus. Must be able to lift 35-pounds.

Hours:  Primarily evenings hours but can vary based on training and production needs. We offer flexible work hours and scheduling.

Pay:  Starts at $18.50/hour and progresses upward with training and experience.
