Location/Division Specific Information

This position will be site based in Fair Lawn, NJ or Bridgewater NJ site, and will support our Laboratory Chemicals Division (LCD Operations) business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Champion the divisional controls and instrumentation improvement program; develop local site(s) teams capability to lead day to day automation tasks ensure systems are backed up, maintained and secure!

Adhering to regulatory and industry standards while designing and implementing electronic control systems (e.g. OSHA, NFPA etc.)Support site teams with Process Improvement Projects (PPI) involving PLC control enhancements to streamline and optimize operationsCreate and manage user documentation, such as wiring diagrams and schematics, for key applications and improvement projects.Use the management of Change (MOC) process ensuring safety, compliance and quality standards are upheld in all aspects of work.Assist with control system routine maintenance activities, outstanding maintenance and capital projects ensuring that activities are completed to plan and budget.Developing and maintaining documentation such as technical specifications, user manuals, training courses and project reportsSupport manufacturing engineering early equipment asset management when installing new equipment and technologies, ensuring control systems are commissioned and maintained appropriately and cost effectively.Develop data reporting infrastructure automate and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in key value streamsMonthly reporting and reviews with manager regarding controls and instrumentation performance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ability to develop write and implement PLC programs, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of control systems. Familiar with Rockwell, Allen Bradley, RSLogix, Siemens S7 systems.Experience with HMI / SCADA systemsKnowledge of industrial communications protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus)Ability to develop and interpret schematics (Electrical, Wiring Diagrams and P&IDs).Strong interpersonal skills to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical partnersExperienced in working with multi-functional global teams and leading collaboratively to achieve business objectivesDemonstrates a self-motivated, proactive and enthusiastic approachCapacity to think strategically and develop long-term Controls and Instrumentation improvement strategies aligned with business objectivesAbility to analyze complicated control and system problems, identifying root causes, and implementing efficient countermeasuresEffective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner.Ability to make timely and informed decisions based on data, analysis, and risk assessmentPC literate with a strong skill using Power BI, Databases, Outlook, and ExcelAttention to detail.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

​Bachelor’s degree in engineering required5+ years’ experience in Process and Control EngineeringExperience with electrical wiring and diagramsExperience with developing and programming of PLC and HMI based systems.Experience with HMI design and configurationProficiency in and electrical schematic creation.Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
