SUMMARY
The PLC Specialist is an advanced-level position within the Engineering Department working within the Electrical Maintenance Team. The successful candidate will work on the programming of different PLC’s throughout the facility. They will support Electrical Technicians in the wiring and installation of new PLC’s by providing recommended installations from the OEM. They will need to have the ability to program variable frequency drives (VFD’s)
The PLC Specialist is responsible for:
Overseeing the installation of PLC’s Performing initial programming of new or existing PLC’sWorking with the manufacturer while troubleshooting malfunctionsVerification of health/functionality of all plant PLC’s
NATURE AND SCOPE
The PLC Specialist reports to the Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor, and works closely with contractors, Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians, and other members of the maintenance team, as well as other plant employees.Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Possesses outstanding communication skills to lead, direct and train others on shift including those involved in on-the-job training functions. Insure daily assigned work orders are completed.Discusses layout, installation procedures and problems with Electrical Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, Engineering Manager, and Vendor Supplied PLC’s.Draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria is met for the installation of new PLC’sRecommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.Establishing plans to forecast upgrades to PLC’sEstablish a written program for a process ensuring the latest software revisions are proven risk-free, then are uploaded to the PLC’sEnsure adequate spare PLC’s are kept in stockSets up standard test apparatus or devises. Tests equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.Uses programmable controllers to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.Accurately and timely completes required documentation of work and reports, which may result in changes to parameters, circuits, components, configuration, or orientation of an electrical/electronic device for future reference by self and others.Helps to build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.Participates in continuous improvement process.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates Degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or equivalent technical school; or four years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to program Allen-Bradley PLC5, SLC500, Contrologix- Studio and have working experience with FactoryTalk SE. Working knowledge of test equipment. Including oscilloscope, digital test meters, insulation test meggers, decade box, power supply, frequency counters, and 4 to 20 ma source meters.Strong computer background including PC hardware, experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows.Must possess a general knowledge of Local Area Network; ability to read and understand schematics, utilize PC and PLC for diagnostics and troubleshooting; have experience with AC/DC voltages ranging from 5 to 480 volts; have experience with electrical wiring in accordance with the National Electric Code; experience with Instrumentation, motor and process controls (Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems); and experience with repairing and maintaining mechanical equipmentAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Basic verbal and written understanding of English language.
Compensation Package: $29.85 - $48.06 USD hourly + bonus eligibility
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
Night Shift Differential Pay: $1.50 USD per hour
