Job Summary
Hiring Range:$65,000 - $73,000 annually.
This position has an anticipated work schedule of either Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm or four, 10-hour shifts Monday - Thursday/Tuesday - Friday, 6:30am - 5:00pm. Schedule is subject to change.

Performs a wide variety of duties associated with all phases of maintenance and repair on plumbing systems, including plumbing fixtures and equipment, such as valves, control devices, pumps, boilers, faucet/flush valves, water and sewer lines, gas and air lines, and associated equipment. Accomplishes other building maintenance and repair (i.e. carpentry, electrical, and painting) as assigned.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
+ Performs preventative maintenance and service; regulates and repairs plumbing equipment supporting water system, compressed air, vapor, oil, gas, drainage, and heating equipment such as steam and hot water boilers.
+ Tests, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and corrects plumbing problems to ensure systems remain operational to applicable codes and design standards.
+ Installs, modifies, repairs, and/or replaces fixtures, heating fixtures, sanitary fixtures, valves, control devices, pumps, drains, meters, coils, exchangers, traps, water coolers and fountains, air compressors, etc.
+ Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; maintains work order of work performed and material used.
+ Assists supervisor in scheduling work orders and completing paperwork.
+ Cleans debris from work area, parts, and equipment.
+ Cuts and threads pipe as necessary.
+ Cleans, flushes, and repairs boilers, heat exchangers etc.; inspects boilers when in use. Installs, maintains, and certifies backflow preventers.
+ Performs other building maintenance tasks supporting building maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, carpentry, etc., when requested.
+ Assists in snow removal and other weather-related duties as assigned.
+ Performs on-call responsibilities as required, supporting all County buildings, including correctional facilities.
+ Performs other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised:This classification does not have supervisory authority and requires no supervision or direction of others.
Supervision Received:Receives intermittent supervision. This classification normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. Regular direction, guidance, and coaching from supervisor is expected. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Knowledge of plumbing methods, practices, and procedures.
+ Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to accomplishing facility maintenance and repair.
+ General knowledge of additional building systems (electrical, mechanical, and carpentry).
+ Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment commonly used in building maintenance, such as hand tools, power tools, gauges, pumps, detectors, test equipment, and snow removal equipment.
+ Must observe and follow safety procedures and precautions.
+ Strong organization and time management skills with attention to detail; ability to do detailed work with significant accuracy.
+ Ability to operate and maintain electrical test/diagnostic equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, and related electrical testing apparatus.
+ Ability to read, interpret, and work from wiring diagrams, code books, sketches, layouts, blueprints, and verbal and written instructions.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with other County employees. Ability to provide excellent customer service.
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
+ Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education & Experience
+ Must be at least 18 years of age.
+ Three years of progressive experience working as a plumbing technician accomplishing maintenance and repair in commercial and/or industrial buildings.
Licenses/Certificates
+ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
+ Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification, or have the ability to successfully obtain within ninety days of employment.
+ Must possess a backflow testing license or obtain within six months of employment.
+ Must possess a Pikes Peak Regional Building Department Mechanical IV License or obtain within six months of employment.
+ Journeyman plumbing license preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements
+ Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.
Work Conditions
Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors and requires the ability to perform laboring tasks in adverse weather and environmental conditions. Some travel may be required. Position involves extensive standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, carrying heavy tools and equipment to work site, working in confined/tight spaces, and work on ladders, scaffold, poles, and in pits and tunnels. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, materials, and tools during the performance of some job responsibilities. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds; uses equipment to move heavier items. Responds to emergency situations as required. Serves as on-call representative for after hour response.
