Summary:
Under general supervision installs repairs and replaces pipes fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain the hot and cold water gas and drainage systems of the hospital. May direct the work of apprentice plumbers.
Responsibilities:
Responds to emergency and trouble calls throughout the hospital and repairs major plumbing malfunctions (i.e. broken pipes and valves as well as all problems) such as leaks clogged drains worn gaskets etc. Responds to 02 gas problems poll maintenance dishwashers natural gas fixtures and OR equipment repairs.
Installs pipes and plumbing fixtures such as sinks toilets showers and water heaters and connects them to outlet and inlet pipes by fitting gaskets couplings traps and valves and soldering connections to seal joints. Silver solder medical gas lies do pipe covering repair fire wall penetrations and garbage disposal and grease removal from units. Also silver recovery system and DI water system.
Assembles and installs valves pipe fittings and pipes composed of metals such as iron and steel and nonmetals such as plastic and glass using hand and power tolls. Cuts and grooves threads pipes using cutters cutting torch and pipe threading machine. Joins pipes by using screws blots fittings or solder and caulk joints. Tank cleaning and inspections in confined spaces.
Repairs medical gas fixtures by replacing arts bed pans hoses and clears vacuum lines for Environmental Services. Must communicate well with regulatory personnel.
May estimate the cost of materials and equipment for a project. Directs the work of apprentice plumbers and performs core drilling.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Possession of valid Plumber�s License.
Possession of Asbestos Competent Person Certificate.
Knowledge of general principles in order to trouble shoot the hospital�s plumbing system.
Knowledge of plumbing and other legal codes and regulations.
Physical strength to carry tools and equipment.
Must keep good records for inspections.
Requires high school diploma or trade school program.
EXPERIENCE:
Requires a minimum of four years experience including a four year apprenticeship program or the equivalent.
Four years of classroom training.
Requires two years experience in a similar size institution.
