Plumber Assistant

The University of Virginia's Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

We are seeking a Plumber Assistant to join Facilities Management’s Health Systems Physical Plant team. Plumber Assistants support the work of licensed journey level plumbers, seniors, and supervisors while becoming more skilled in the trade. They help ensure the highest quality trade products for the University and Medical Center. They learn the plumbing trade through on-the-job training, from skilled plumbers. Through their work with skilled plumbers, they become experienced and may become certified in the trade. Plumber Assistants function in a learning capacity and operate under direct supervision.

Responsibilities:

Assist skilled journey level mechanics in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, building, construction, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup.

Respond to emergency calls, including nights and weekends, as needed.

Communicate with customers regarding the status of work order, providing additional support and problem solving, as needed.

Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.

Develop an increasing familiarity with the skills and best practices of assigned trade.

Actively participate in classroom and on-the-job training.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Some experience working in the plumbing trade is preferred.

Experience working in a hospital or clinical environment is strongly preferred.

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks.

Compensation:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.00 - $20.00 ($33,280 - $41,600 per year). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.
