Job Description
Under the supervision of the Design Standards Unit Manager and the Assistant Manager, the selected candidate (Plumbing/fire protection engineer) will be responsible for review fire protection, fire alarm, and plumbing design documents for tenant projects (TAA) and design audit, and project processing for Port Authority (PA) facilities to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and Port Authority technical standardsSpecific responsibilities include: downloading the electronic TAA submissions, previewing construction documents, hydraulic calculations, specifications, and reports for completeness with codes and standardsCoordinating the review comments from others technical disciplines and preparing memoranda for transmitting comments to the line departmentsAttend meeting with tenant Architect/Engineer of Records to discuss the review comments and resolve the issuesAssigning various technical disciplines for code review, and communicating with PA facilities to process TAA and design audit projectsLayout of plumbing and fire protection systemsEquipment layout and sizingInternational Mechanical Code, Plumbing Code and Fire CodeASME B31.1 Power Piping/ ASME B3.9 Building Services Piping DesignsNFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler SystemsQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering is requiredMinimum of five (7) years of diverse experience in fire protection and plumbing systems designExperience designing Plumbing & Fire Protection systems on various project type Experience Managing projects, mentoring engineers and preparing plansKnowledge of applicable construction codes and their reference standards in New York City, New York State, and State of New JerseyProper understanding of engineering disciplines related to building design and construction of transportation and related facilitiesP.E is requiredAdditional Details:
