About This Role:
The Plumbing Supervisor is an integral position within the Facilities Maintenance department. This person is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all utility distribution systems and related fixtures and fittings in real-property facilities at Lamar University. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the workflow of the Plumbing Shop personnel. This a working supervisor position, meaning that the candidate will be expected to work along with subordinate personnel and supervise both assigned employees, and contractors for work that is beyond the section’s scope to perform. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the plumbing specialty. They will be expected to train, guide, coach, and help resolve issues with subordinates, serving as a link between subordinates and upper management. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, wet, noisy, or which may contain hazards. This position is considered essential, and employees will be required to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to emergencies or natural disasters. The Plumbing Supervisor works under the direct supervision of the Utilities Systems Manager, in the Facilities Maintenance department.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
+ As a working supervisor, you will also oversee all plumbing operations while evaluating and coordinating the activities of assigned plumbing technicians and apprentices, while building relationships and working effectively as a team.
+ Inform upper management of work beyond the shop’s scope, obtain quotes, initiate requisitions, and monitor contracted work progress and completion.
+ Maintain an inspection program for all campus backflow prevention devices by state and local guidelines, and ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
+ Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and equipment, order supplies as needed, mentor and train plumbing team members while providing excellent customer service to all faculty, staff, and students.
Key Competencies:
+ Knowledgeable in repairing and servicing plumbing systems and associated fixtures and fittings.
+ Proficient in diagnosing and repairing municipal water, sanitary sewage, and gas distribution lines.
+ Thorough knowledge of repairing and maintaining associated utility systems.
+ Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, email applications, and experience with a computerized maintenance management system.
+ Demonstrates the highest level of ethics, works collaboratively to meet departmental and university needs, and provides exemplary customer service to staff, faculty, and students.
Physical Requirements:
Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work. Some combination of climbing and balancing, including climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crawling, working at heights, and working in confined spaces. May involve the lifting of moderately heavy objects, up to 45 pounds. Requires a full range of physical motion to operate manual/electrically powered tools.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Plumbing Journeyman’s Certification
+ A High School diploma or GED is required.
+ Able to obtain a Backflow Certification within 6 months of hire (depending on scheduling).
+ 7 years of proven work experience in the plumbing industry.
+ Valid Driver’s License
+ Previous supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
