Poison Information Specialist

Overview Answer telephone calls relating to known or suspected poisonings and then advise on treatment and /or triage of patient to appropriate level of care. Also participate in data collection/reporting efforts, public education programs, and research efforts. Qualifications **Evening Shift- either 12PM-12AM or 2pm-2AM- rotating** **Required Education: Must be a Graduated from a Nursing, Pharmacy, PA, or medical degree program Age of Patients Served: All Age Groups. Required Education: Must be a Graduated from a Nursing, Pharmacy, PA, or medical degree program Necessary Skills: 1. Must be familiar with basic aspects of pharmacology, toxicology, and clinical patient management. 2. Possess good organizational skills 3. Familiar with computer data entry and retrieval. 4. Must be able to assess severity of exposures and placate victims and families. 5. Must be able to educate, prioritize, triage and communicate effectively with general public and health care professionals. Preferred Licensure/Certifications: Licensure to practice nursing, pharmacy, medicine, or physician's assistant in the State of Florida. Required Experience: 1-2 years clinical experience Preferred Experience: Emergency Department or Critical Care experience preferred Required Licensure/Certification: Sit for and pass the AAPCC specialist in poison information certification exam as soon as eligibility requirements are met. After three unsuccessful attempts, it will be grounds for termination.
