Communications Officers work two days on/two days off with a three-day weekend every other weekend. In addition to a competitive hourly rate, night shift workers are eligible for a shift differential of $1.75 an hour.  

As a Communications Officer/Police Dispatcher, you will process incoming and outgoing communications in the Security Operations Center. In addition, you will monitor cameras, alarms and other surveillance equipment to provide vital information to dispatched responders.

Responsibilities:

Receives records, assesses urgency, and responds to all security/police phone calls and emergency calls.Monitor and responds to all incoming alarm signals across multiple platforms.Receives and transmits all security/police multi-based radio, air transport and satellite communications.Processes requests for classified data of employees, patients, and public.Process code and medical emergency activations received from clinical staff and overhead page information.Monitors, analyzes, and reacts to real-time alerts via social media and employee travel platforms.Drafts and disseminates electronic notifications to internal stakeholders.Disseminates mass notification alerts to necessary employees during crisis situations.Performs clerical functions in the Security Operations Center.Other duties as assigned

Education:

High School Diploma or GED Required  Associate’s degree or Public Safety Dispatching certificate or equivalent formal training in Criminal Justice, Computer Science or other related field may substitute for up to one year of required experience.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute the required experience.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Must demonstrate customer service orientation, seeking to understand customer requirements and exercising judgment in meeting their expectations, particularly when there are differences of opinions on needs and services, unanticipated contingencies or a divergence of ideas/perspectives.

Work Experience:

Two years of experience in a high volume communications center, PBX operator, or a public or private law enforcement/security agency.Offset: Associate’s degree or Public Safety Dispatching certificate or equivalent formal training in Criminal Justice, Computer Science or other related field may substitute for up to one year of required experience. Offset: Bachelor’s degree in a related field may offset the required experience.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periodsAbility to operate a computer and other office equipmentAbility to communicate and exchange accurate informationIn some locations, ability to move up to 40 pounds
