The Louisiana State Museum System consist of (10) museums with historic sites located in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Thibodaux, Patterson and Natchitoches. The incumbent of this position is responsible for patrolling the buildings, adjoining grounds, and parking lot areas; to protect them against damage or trespass and to maintain order. They also monitor and report irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking pipes, unsecured window and doors, and assist in safety checks of equipment. This position protects the visitors to the museum and collection items on display in the exhibition galleries. Duties and responsibilities include: + 65% Patrolling Serves as an armed commissioned Police Officer in the enforcement of State, Federal, and local laws. Patrols interior and perimeter of LSM properties to ensure security and deter theft. Directs and controls visitor traffic. Patrols at night during special events to prevent vandalism, fires and unauthorized entry and provide guest protection. + 15% Building Access Control Maintains building log of all daily activities, to include entry/exit of LSM employees/guests into restricted areas; deliveries; etc. Ensures key control by unlocking/ locking buildings upon opening and closing each day. Monitors and operates building alarm and security systems. + 15% Emergencies/Special Events Intervenes in crisis situations and judiciously uses force, if necessary, to detain individuals, make arrests, restore order or preventing stealing of property.
