The primary purpose of the position is to perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the assigned jurisdictions. Responsibilities Performs the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions: Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction. Serves as liaison between civilian law enforcement agencies, district attorneys, and court systems, and military and civilian personnel living or working on the installation: Facilitates a wide variety of civil court orders and subpoenas; felony and misdemeanor warrants; and gathers, processes, and disseminates civil and criminal violation information on military and civilian personnel within the installation's area of responsibility (AOR). Serves as the Absent Without Leave (AWOL) Apprehension Police Officer. Analyzes criminal trends, maintains and tracks Security Forces incident reports, tickets, barments, driving records, revocations, and suspense's using the Air Force Justice Information System (AFJIS). Oversees Fingerprinting and DNA Registry programs associated National Criminal Indexing databases and maintains law enforcement and security related controlled items. This position will support the Federal Government's response to efforts to COVID-19. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Continued from Conditions of Employment: Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by AF/A4S and obtain DoD Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification. Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties. Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually. Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations. This is a Key position. The duties of this position meet all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,") This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS Police Series 0083. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property; 2) Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, training requirements and operating methods required to perform the full range of police officer activities independently; 3) Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls to prevent unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced; 4) Knowledge of appropriate use of force and self-defense techniques to protect oneself and others in threatening situations including the ability to subdue and control individuals as required; 5) Possess the ability to operate motor vehicles have a gross weight of 7,000 pounds or less, loading capacities of 1 ton or less, and two- or four-wheel drive vehicles to transport personnel and/or articles; 6) Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community management, employees, and other law enforcement agencies; 7) Possess the ability to utilize computer-based software and web-based national information sharing platforms and networks to oversee administrative law enforcement and security functions; and 8) Possess the ability to manage and oversees local criminal indexing requirements on behalf of the federal government. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, training requirements and operating methods required to perform the full range of police officer activities independently.
