Job Title Police Officer Recruit Posting Number F006292 Position Status Full Time Assignment Length Not Applicable Grant Funded No Category Police Operations Class Code 77 Starting Pay $51,107 Special Note Location District Department DT Police Department Job Summary The Police Officer Recruit is a transitional role that is expected to attend and successfully complete Police Academy as well as pass the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) exam in preparation to qualify for commissioning as a peace officer for the Tarrant County College District (TCCD). This position is responsible for successfully meeting the academic, psychological, and physical training requirements of the Police Academy, with the objective of transitioning into a Police Officer role once all requirements are met, typically within one year of hire. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Essential Performance Requirements* Uses interpersonal skills, thinking, and reasoning to make sound judgments when deciding how duties and responsibilities are completed Attends Police Academy training, which includes physical fitness training, successfully completing all exercises and examinations, and adhering to all rules and regulations of the Police Academy Performs on-the-job training by working assigned, rotating shifts to complete security patrols, traffic control, investigations, arresting persons involved in crimes or misconduct, and render first aid Complies with assignments, policies, procedures, and directives given during on-the-job training; carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, and local laws or ordinances, and College District policies and procedures Under supervision, works on rotating shifts performing security patrols, traffic control, investigation and first aid at accidents, detection, investigation, and arrest of persons involved in crimes or misconduct Works an assigned shift using own judgment in deciding course of action being expected to handle difficult and emergency situations, as guided by Field Training Officer (FTO) Maintains normal availability by radio or telephone for consultation with supervisors or other Police staff; responds to emergency radio calls and requests ambulances and other law enforcement or emergency agencies when necessary Maintains contact with supervisory personnel to coordinate investigation activities and provide assistance during emergency situations


Service Excellence Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC) Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Required Minimum Qualifications At least 21 years old at time of required training completion United States citizen or per 88th leg., R.S., Ch. 1049 (S.B. 252) Sec. 3, a Legal Permanent Resident of the United States who: Is an honorably discharged veteran of the armed forces of the United States with at least 2 two years of service before before discharge; and Presents evidence satisfactory to the commission (TCOLE) that the person has applied for United States citizenship

High school diploma or GED Within a timeframe set by the Chief of Police, typically within one year of hire, to transistion into the Police Officer role after completing: The Police Academy The TCC Police Department Field Training Program Any level of Peace Officer Proficiency Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Valid Texas Driver’s License Employment is contingent upon a candidate’s successful criminal background investigation results that provide no evidence of Felony convictions Class B misdemeanor convictions or court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offences above the grade of class B within the last ten (10) years Convictions, probations, or deferred dispositions for family violence DWI/DUI convictions within the last ten (10) years Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Management, or related field At least one (1) year’s working experience working at a college or university related to the Essential Performance Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, equipment, applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships including strong listening, verbal, and written communication Skilled in the operation of all equipment utilized by the Police Department necessary to perform assigned tasks Skilled in using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment either individually or as part of a team Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied and unpredictable in scope and volume Ability to assess situations and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations while exhibiting a strong attention to detail and organization Ability to maintain a high level of diplomacy and tact, ensuring confidentiality and discretion Ability to learn District geography, including all campuses, routes, buildings, and facilities as well as adjacent city roads and highways, buildings, landmarks, waterways, and boundaries Ability to meet the Police Department’s psychological and physical standards Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
