Job Summary
CAMC Police Officers will be responsible for enhancing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Officers will assist and supplement CAMC Security with issues that exceed staff expertise or authority; Officers will address criminal incidents and suspected violations of law within their jurisdictional limits. Officers will perform all mandated positional duties as outlined in West Virginia State Code §16-5B-19.
Responsibilities
• Create and maintain a safety presence on hospital property, but specifically in the Emergency Departments. • Respond to and investigate suspected violations of law (primarily on assigned campus). • Act as a liaison between CAMC and other law enforcement agencies. • Supplement and aid security personnel for incidents more serious in nature that require sworn law enforcement. • Fulfill required annual training requirements. • Complete necessary reports and record keeping. • As needed, perform tasks typically associated with traditional police work. • Provide general customer service and assistance consistent with CAMC Core Values. • Report to and operate under the direction and authority of CAMC Police Department Command Staff.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform related duties as assigned.
Education
• High School Diploma or GED
Credentials
Must be certified, or certifiable as a law-enforcement officer in the manner specified in West Virginia State Code §30-29-5. West Virginia driver’s license required.
