Job Description:

The University of Florida Police Department invites applications for a vacant Police Service Technician position assigned to its Nighttime Building Security/Patrol Division.  The duties and responsibilities are as follows; not all inclusive. Shift assignment for this position is 6:30pm - 3:00am; 40 hour work week; with mandatory overtime dependent on department needs. Foot patrol assigned area(s) of streets, parking facilities/lots and buildings; assist public with information and directions;  report safety hazards, acts of vandalism, suspicious persons and activities and any other condition that is or could create a problem; (i.e. malfunction of mechanical  equipment of  parking facilities, elevators, sound systems, lights, telephone parking meters), check fire extinguishers, request cleaning of facilities as needed; prepare and submit written reports of incidents when required. Foot patrol university buildings to safeguard against fire, trespassing, thefts, and other hazards; insure that doors are properly secured and lights are off when facilities are not in use. Direct traffic at intersections and/or traffic congestion due to campus special events, accidents, stranded motorist, etc. Other related work as needs determine. This position is designated as an Essential Employee.  Essential employees provide vital support to the UF and are subject to recall to work when deemed necessary by the Chief of Police/designee.  Recall to work typically happens due to an emergency, disaster or special event that may coincide with the official suspension of classes and/or closing of offices.

Advertised Salary:

$17.00/hourly; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Some positions may require proficiency in typing.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Valid Drivers License.

Ability to climb stairs and open and close gates to campus. 

Ability to operate safely authorized motorized vehicle type equipment. 

Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications; ability to exercise independent judgment without supervision; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to investigate and obtain critical facts; ability to identify and describe facts and events accurately; ability to collect and evaluate data; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner.
