We are seeking a skilled Polymer Chemist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing new architectural paint materials within a laboratory setting. This role involves mixing chemicals and additives to create architectural paint, ensuring quality standards, and considering environmental impacts. The Polymer Chemist will also mix new paint formulations by selecting appropriate resins, pigments, additives, and solvents to achieve desired properties like adhesion, durability, color, and gloss. The candidate will conduct laboratory testing such as viscosity, draw downs on different substrates, stain resistance, and application testing. Additionally, the role includes providing technical support for key innovation projects and customer services, ensuring lab safety, and following general safety procedures.
Responsibilities
+ Test new architectural paint materials within a laboratory setting.
+ Mix chemicals and additives to create architectural paint while ensuring quality standards and considering environmental impact.
+ Mix new paint formulations by selecting appropriate resins, pigments, additives, and solvents to achieve desired properties like adhesion, durability, color, and gloss.
+ Conduct laboratory testing such as viscosity, draw downs on different substrates, stain resistance, and application testing.
+ Provide technical support for key innovation projects and customer services.
+ Ensure lab safety and follow general safety procedures.
+ Conduct hands-on work in the lab to provide reliable results.
+ Work with scientists and other technicians to plan and execute technical lab work.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in chemistry, paint, and coating technologies.
+ Knowledge of polymer chemistry.
+ Experience with viscosity, application testing, draw down, and stain resistance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Diploma with 5+ years of hands-on paint/coating lab experience.
+ Associates degree with 3+ years of hands-on paint/coating lab experience.
+ Bachelors degree with 2+ years of hands-on paint/coating lab experience.
+ Experience working with and making paint or coatings, preferably architectural paint.
+ Experience conducting lab testing such as viscosity and application testing.
Work Environment
This position is based in an applications lab, where you will work with various technologies and equipment to conduct tests and create paint formulations. The lab adheres to strict safety protocols to ensure a secure and efficient working environment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $38.46/hr.
