The opportunity 

As a Polymer Waveguide Engineer within our Waveguide Materials R&D Group, you will lead experiments on critical projects focused on polymer waveguides. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, advancing the application of polymers for AR waveguides. You will play a key role in innovating and supporting technology R&D for the formation, characterization, and metrology of polymeric nanophotonic devices. This position requires extensive work in a clean-room environment.

This role requires someone to be onsite in Austin, TX. Relocation assistance may be available.

What you’ll do 

Fabricate, form, characterize, and perform metrology of wafer-scale polymer waveguides. Aid in developing new processes and architectures for polymer waveguides. Develop tools and procedures to analyze optical and mechanical properties of polymer materials and photonic devices. Document experimental procedures, results, and observations with precision and accuracy. Report experimental results, insights, and recommendations to project leaders in a timely and organized manner. Propose and execute new experiments based on previous results, applying engineering principles to identify next steps and drive innovation. Ownership of equipment involving documentation, maintenance, and upgrades

The experience you bring

3+ years of professional experience in hands-on laboratory work, including clean-room environments and nanofabrication tools.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in a related field. Hands-on experience with micro/nanofabrication processes, including optical and mechanical material characterization, with a focus on polymer materials and waveguide structures. Experience with tool ownership, maintenance of equipment, and mechanical understanding of systems  Demonstrated attention to detail, particularly related to process changes and repeatability. Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate findings clearly. Strong data analysis and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve experimental challenges. Comfort with repetitive hands-on tasks

It’s exciting if you also have

Master’s or advanced degree in engineering, material science, applied physics, chemistry, or a closely related field. Proficiency in working with UV-curable polymer materials. Hands-on experience in contact lithography, soft lithography, wafer bonding, and dry/wet etching processes. Familiarity with tools and software such as Matlab, Python, or JMP

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. In addition to salary, Magic Leap offers a discretionary bonus, equity, and a fully comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.
