The Sleep Technician or Polysomnographer performs routineand complex procedures, to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinicaldisorders of the nervous system, in at least two of the following fields oftechnical Neurophysiology: Electroencephalograph, Evoked Potentials, orEpilepsy and Sleep.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates electroencephalograph and evoked potentialequipment to record patient’s brain waves and nervous system response toprovide quantitative and objective measures of sensory function Operate stimulating equipment safely to include a clickstimulator, pattern reversal stimulator and somatosensory stimulator(electrical stimulation) for study of various sensory modalities Analyzes waveforms during testing to detect evidence ofbrain disorders and sensory dysfunction Plots and labels graphs with identifying information; scoresovernight polysomnograms; reviews EEG records and retains representativeportions for microfilming May schedule patients for electroencephalographic, evokedpotential and sleep tests Interviews patients to obtain required medical information,explains procedures, allay fears and elicits cooperation Prepares patient for tests to include measuring and markingcranial area and fastening electrodes to specified positions on scalp and body Records medical history, medications used, test results andidentification information on patient’s medical records for review andevaluation by physicians; collect and compile medical information for use inresearch projects Participates in the collection of normative data designed torefine the database of existing procedures Assists in the cross-training of clinical neurophysiologylaboratory personnel and students Cleans, adjusts and performs routine maintenance and repairon electroencephalograph, evoked potential and video monitoring equipment toensure proper functioning Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; reorder asrequired Maintains liaison with referring physicians to resolveproblems and to advise concerning laboratory procedures, techniques andequipment Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies andprocedures Performs other duties as assigned/necessaryMinimum Requirements:
Associate’s degree in a biological or physiological sciencesprogram or equivalent number of years’ experience in a biological orpsychological field; as required by state regulations or contractspecifications National Board Registration in one or more of three areas:EEG, Evoked Potential, Polysomnography is preferred and may be required bystate regulations or contract specifications Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency programwhen applicable Current CPR if applicable TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation) Must meet all federal, state and local requirements Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required Computer proficiency required Must be at least 18 years of age Benefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits: Competitive pay & weekly paychecks Health, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) savings plan Awards and recognition programs *Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.
