Polysomnographic Technologist
Job Title: Polysomnographic TechnologistJob Description Administers therapy and treatments, performs sleep apnea studies and scores, performs EKG. Administers gases, teaches patients, documents care, and adheres to patient care protocols. Supports Neurology with EEGs including periodic weekend call. We are a 4-bed sleep lab accredited by the AASM to perform overnight and home sleep studies. We do not handle pediatric patients (physician discretion can allow older adolescents). Typical patient load follows accreditation guidelines and cannot exceed a ratio of 2 patients per technician. The technician will help with basic housekeeping duties such as mask cleaning, stripping rooms for housekeeping, maintenance of all applicable documentation, and periodic “on the fly” scoring of sleep studies and HST scoring and setups. We seek individuals who can work independently with the experience to make informed decisions about patient care and experience. They must be flexible to suggestions from the physician and be a team player. Attention to detail is crucial as criteria must be met and maintained for patient testing. Reliability in attendance is imperative for patient satisfaction and continuity. Flexibility and willingness to cross-train to the neurology team for limited call coverage is required. The sleep tech will provide limited on-call coverage on weekends (7a-7p Sat and Sun) to support the neurology staff. This will be discussed during the interview process. Our hospital currently uses Sunrise Clinical EMR, which is set to change. The sleep tech will work primarily within our sleep testing system, NATUS. Data entry will be nearly exclusively in that system, but the technologist will need to access the patient EMR for information. Work Site This is a fully on-site position in Liberty, Missouri. Work Environment Located at the main hospital - Sleep department doing sleep studies on patients (not traveling to anyone's homes). Hours: overnight, 7:00 pm to 7:30 am, 3 - 12 hour shifts. The department, when fully staffed, will have 4 full-time sleep techs and numerous PRN staff.
