To assist in the repair and maintenance of Port office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds, and appliances and to become familiarized with the operation and maintenance of mobile equipment used in these maintenance operations.

Cruise Maintenance
This position is in the Cruise Maintenance Crew of the Facility Services department of the Port of New Orleans Maintenance Division and reports directly to a Port Facility Maintenance Foreman.
Performs maintenance and operation of the Board’s Cruise Terminal Facilities performing the following duties:
This position participates in the required PORT training program and obtains additional training in order to facilitate the efficient performance duties and/or required tasks. This is a safety sensitive position that requires random drug screening throughout the year.
The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver’s License, Class E, or other state equivalent, and be knowledgeable and capable of the safe operation of various types of equipment required to fulfill the needs of the position and the PORT. The incumbent is required to have knowledge of the use of a UHF radio, which requires proper radio etiquette. The incumbent shall utilize a telephone, cell phone, two-way communication device, computer, and email to facilitate communications if required. The incumbent must be able to perform duties many times without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. Incumbent may be required to work overtime or be on-call. May also require working immediately before, after, or during a disaster.
85% Cruise Terminal Maintenance and Operation Duties
+ Performs maintenance and cleaning of all outdoor areas of the cruise ship terminals, including handrails, wharf logs, mooring bits, brick pavers, concrete and asphalt, light poles, fences, outside trash, siding, signs, landscape areas, air conditioning condensers, and windows.
+ Monitors riverside apron at Erato and Julia St. Cruise Ship terminals and at the Poydras St. wharf for ingress/egress access for Board tenants at all three locations.
+ Performs maintenance and cleaning of all indoor areas of the cruise ship terminals, including but not limited to, ceramic and rubber tile files, carpets, ceilings, air conditioning and heat vents, lighting fixtures, walls, restrooms, rolling doors, and escalators.
+ Coordinates with contractors and vendors involved with work that is performed at the cruise ship terminals.
+ Monitors and resets VAV boxes on HVAC rooftop units when there are power surges and outages to ensure that unit can be turned on manually whenever the Energy Management System is not working.
+ Monitors dry valve sprinkler system pressure gages to ensure that systems are indicating proper readings and are at the right pressure and resets they systems if tripped. Monitors and performs weekly tests of fire pump system to ensure that dry valve system suction and discharge pressures are at a consistent reading.
+ Monitors fire protection notifier alarm boxes. Identifies and remedies problems and resets the system if tripped. Coordinates closely with fire alarm monitoring company to ensure that the cruise terminals are protected continuously from fire and smoke.
+ Monitors elevators within the cruise terminals to ensure safe operation. In emergency situations when elevators stop during passenger embark/disembark operations, takes the necessary action to reset elevator system and manually open doors.
+ Monitors water riser pump room gauges to ensure that water pressure is maintained at proper levels throughout the terminals.
+ Monitors cruise vessel operations when there is a cruise ship in port, handles maintenance and operating system problems, reports medical emergencies and any damages to Port property.
+ Performs special projects inside and outside of the cruise terminals involving electrical repair, building maintenance, and construction.
+ Maintains and performs weed control functions at all cruise terminal wharves and within the department’s district.
+ Performs cruise vessel potable water ship service connect and disconnect functions and reads/records water meter readings. Records cruise terminal water and electricity meter readings before and after cruise day operations.
+ Provides maintenance support to parking garage operations.
+ Performs maintenance duties as required by management to ensure the timely and safe function of the Cruise Terminal Facilities.
+ Help with hurricane protection.
+ Ensure Cruise Terminal Facilities are maintained at a high level of service. Coordinate with other department managers as needed to complete needed maintenance. Ensure maintenance contracts are completed as required.
+ Works as directed.
10% Supervision Duties
+ Supervise contract personnel to ensure contracts are completed as required.
+ Performs functional supervision of work performed by lower-level Port Facility Maintenance Specialist positions as necessary and when called upon, acts as the temporary Supervisor in the absence of the Unit Supervisor.
5% Other Duties, including Emergency Support
+ The incumbent is required to perform a variety of tasks and assignments, as directed by the supervisor, necessary to fulfill the mission of the Facility Services Department and/or Port Maintenance Division. Prepares and performs emergency preparation and response duties as designated or needed, including active participation in drills and actual events such as hurricane facility preparations.
