Portfolio Analyst

The Opportunity:

The market manager plays a key support role within the Portfolio Management (Chemicals) organization. The position is designed to assist Chemicals Portfolio Leadership and the entire Portfolio Management Organization with analysis and implementation of strategies that support the expansion Avantor’s Chemicals business with key suppliers and customers. This position will have the following primary functions: conducting various data analyses, managing new supplier on-boarding via internal Toll Gate Process, executing product additions/deletions, managing the Portfolio’s pricing process with suppliers, filling in for the Portfolio Director(s) when needed, as well as fulfilling ad-hoc requests for information, data and analysis as required.

What we are looking for:

Bachelor’s degree in science required. Chemistry - preferred

Technical degree and/or MBA preferred

2-3 years of relevant work experience, preferably with multi-department project management in global, matrix organization

Demonstrated history of meeting deadlines and achieving results while maintaining strong attention to details in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Project Management

Drive On-Boarding of  Lab and Production Chemicals Suppliers/Products:  Actively manages all aspects of the on-boarding process utilizing the internal Toll Gate Process to include: managing internal meetings, assistance with financial modeling, working with Chemicals Portfolio Leadership to implement customer specific pricing strategies, coordinating with the e-business team, MarCom, Master Data, FIP, Compliance, and Finance functional areas to ensure appropriate integration with suppliers is enabled  as well as providing supporting data analyses and competitive cross reference tables.

Manage Product Discontinuation Process: Coordinates closely with suppliers, manufacturing organization, and internal contacts to ensure production addition, discontinuation, and supersession processes are followed, and that Commercial and Operations teams are prepared for substitutions when such options exist.

Core Product Conversions: Coordinates and manages the conversion of Chemical Market Source suppliers and products to Core when and where appropriate.

Analytics

Informatics and research support:  Produces proactive analyses and competitive intelligence gathering regarding competitors’ pricing and positioning, in support of key chemicals product launches and for determination of potential unmet market needs.

Reporting and Data Analysis Support: Provides data analysis for Chemicals Portfolio Leadership. This includes not only generating reports in the company’s various systems (QV, BW, SAP, ZPIE, etc.)  but also providing critical thought and option recommendations regarding the results.

Pricing Support

Analysis:  Conducts in depth analysis of prior year pricing actions to determine net effect of changes & recommendations for future action.

Benchmarking: Performs continual updates of competitor pricing related to top tiers of suppliers’ products, providing Chemicals Portfolio Leadership with insights into list price gaps and opportunities for margin expansion.

Implementation: Assists Chemicals Portfolio Leadership with timely completion of the year-end pricing process and Internal Operating Plan (IOP) development.    

Content Issues: Handles all content discrepancies including price book variances and unit of measure issues.

Field Sales Support

Field Communication: Works with Chemicals Portfolio Leadership to develop product positioning and messaging for new products and suppliers.  Answers routine questions from field regarding chemical programs and initiatives.   

Chemical Specialist Teams: Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the individual Specialists and their management teams. Provides consistently exceptional level of support.

Performs other duties as assigned.
