The Portfolio Manager at MHS is responsible for Memorial Health’s project portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and effective use of resources. This role is responsible for portfolio-level planning, prioritizing initiatives, and developing comprehensive roadmap that support the Health System’s long-term goals. Key responsibilities include managing portfolio data integrity, optimizing resource allocation, and resolving resource conflicts to maintain alignment with strategic objectives. This role serves as an advisor to senior leaders and C-suite executives, providing insights on portfolio health and strategic impacts. Oversees portfolio-level governance and support for project execution: Ensures strategic alignment and oversight of project activities within the portfolio, focusing on standardized processes, resource allocation, and high-level guidance for effective project delivery. Monitors project activities across the portfolio to evaluate their alignment with organizational goals and their contributions to MH’s strategic objectives. Directs initiatives in the portfolio to align with Memorial Health System’s objectives, emphasizing standardization or centralization where appropriate. Provides high-level change management oversight to address scope, schedule, cost, and resource adjustments, ensuring alignment with approved portfolio strategies. Identifies opportunities to improve project management methods and collaborates with system resources to enhance overall project outcomes. Advises leadership on risks across the portfolio and collaborates on proactive risk management.  Supports a culture and infrastructure within MH that enables structured approaches to project-related decision-making and prioritization of strategic initiatives when assigning resources. Applies a governance framework for decision making to monitor and control the lifecycle of projects in the areas of meetings, reporting, risk and issue management, assurance, and project management control processes. Project Resource Management: planning, staffing human resources for projects and managing capacities including project timelines and budgets. Strategic Alignment: selecting and prioritizing projects that align the health systems’ strategic objectives. Portfolio controlling and support including milestone planning, monitoring and evaluating project progress, support of the program manager and of project managers. Must have experience identifying and resolving cross project conflicts. Manages large amounts of sensitive, confidential information concerning personnel, financial, strategic, and business information contained in minutes, letters and other documents, as well as through meetings, discussions and interventions. Develops and maintains productive relationships with System Leadership Team, leaders, and colleagues to aid in MHS goal and objective accomplishment. Provides mentoring to project managers and program managers to strengthen skills and further develop as individual contributors. Maintains professional affiliations as appropriate. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings/seminars and workshops Ability to identify stalled initiatives and provide project leadership to ensure success Performs other related work as required or

Required Experience

Education:

Graduate degree in Business, Information Services, Project Management, Organizational Development, or related field required. In lieu of degree, five years related experience and Project Management Professional certification will be considered.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Project Management Professional (PMP), preferred. Certified Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) completed within three years of hire. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, preferred. Change Management certification preferred.

Experience:

At least 15 years of experience in structured, formal project management required. Proven experience managing complex programs required. Previous portfolio management experience preferred.

Resource Planning and Alignment: Expert in developing and implementing resource management strategies that optimize the allocation of human resources across the project portfolio. Skilled in balancing project demands with available resources to ensure high-priority initiatives are adequately staffed and aligned with organizational goals. Proficient in forecasting resource needs, resolving resource conflicts, and adjusting to meet changing project and portfolio requirements. Change Management: Expertise in leading change management initiatives to support the successful implementation of projects across the portfolio. This includes assessing organizational impact, developing communication plans, and ensuring stakeholder engagement. Financial Management: Strong understanding of financial management principles, including budget planning, cost control, and return on investment (ROI) analysis, to effectively management project portfolio costs and justify resource allocation decisions. Risk Management: Proficient in identifying, assessing, and mitigating portfolio-level risks, with a focus on proactivity addressing potential issues that could impact strategic objectives or resource alignment. Decision-Making and Problem-Solving: Proven ability to make sound, data-driven decisions in complex situations, balancing project needs with resource constraints and organizational priorities. Project Management Expertise: Success in managing project teams form initiation through closure. Experienced in project scoping, budgeting, requirements gathering, stakeholder identification, and risk/issue/mitigation management. Process Coordination and Oversight: Skilled in coordinating all aspects of project management, including documentation, scheduling, directing project work, monitoring, controlling project activities and value, and executing through closure and handoff to operations. Strong Analytical and Organizational Skills: Demonstrate strong analytical, planning, and organizational abilities, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Travel Requirement: Must be able to travel between multiple sites with own transportation. Technical Proficiency: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; experience with Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Project Web Application, Strategic Portfolio Management systems and Visio preferred.
