The Investment Products Advisory Group (IPAG) supports the positioning of RBC GAM investment solutions and capital markets views across Canadian retail and private client distribution channels. The team specializes in providing product support and producing impactful investment content in collaboration with our investment teams and marketing partners.
The ultimate goal of IPAG is to empower RBC GAM distribution teams with the resources they need to deliver best-in-class service to advisors and help them drive better client conversations. The Portfolio Specialist plays a critical role within the team, leading the development and maintenance of a broad range of resources that communicate our investment capabilities, while delivering highly responsive and exceptional service to our channels.
In this role you will collaborate with other members of the Investment Products Advisory Group as well as our investment teams, marketing partners and sales teams. You will be responsible for ensuring that our sales teams have the investment insights, education and presentation materials required to promote and positon these strategies to their clients. You will become the subject matter expert in the strategies that you cover, with the ultimate objective of actively participating in the delivery of presentations to sales teams, advisors and clients.
What will you do?
Work closely with fund managers and investment teams to lead communication, sales support and client service requirements for a range of products and asset classes.Act as a center of expertise to explain how products are managed and positioned with investors. Responsible for generating original ideas and content that effectively positions and supports the firm’s solutions and market outlook. Participate in advisor meetings as subject matter expert, usually with portfolio managers.Provide regular product and market updates to GAM sales teams.Lead GAM product training sessions with new hires within both GAM sales teams and PH&N IC.Represent portfolio managers in certain scenarios on conference calls and in client meetings.Possess a high level of understanding of how channels, investment capabilities and business drivers fit together.Demonstrate deep knowledge of markets and investment strategies; able to confidently field related questions.Explain and write about market themes for both sophisticated and non-sophisticated audiences.Anticipate what market events will require messaging and able to personally generate high-quality content swiftly.Require minimal assistance to independently manage complex issues/objections with sales teams, advisors, or portfolio managers.Utilize exceptional writing and charting skills to create & develop new content that drives sales and retention.Participate in strategic planning related to sales initiatives, providing context and messaging as a credible expert.Independently write impactful messaging for use in general marketing material and/or investment communications.Develop and mentor Associate Portfolio Analysts and Portfolio Analysts; may have people management responsibilitiesCollaborate effectively with colleagues across product, sales, marketing and compliance teams.What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
7+ years of experience in the financial services industryExceptional written communication, presentation and interpersonal skillsCFA designation (candidate or charterholder)Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, specifically related to charting, formatting, and data analysisInnovative self-starter with acute attention to detail and strong organizational skills with ability to work in high pressure situationsTeam player with the ability to work independently and to prioritize and multitask in an unstructured environment in order to meet tight timelinesNice to Have
A strong understanding of the retail banking landscape and its investor base; client facing experience a strong assetPrevious experience developing and writing investment-related content, particularly in a fast-paced environmentPeople management experienceExperience with Morningstar Direct and BloombergBilingual French communication would be an assetWhat’s in it for you?
