The Hussman Institute has an exciting opportunity for a full time Post Doctoral Associate position. The incumbent performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                              

Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.

Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.

Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.

Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research on Neurotoxicity and Alzheimer Disease.

-Molecular and cellular biology techniques to include, but are not limited to PCR, cloning, and tissue culture. In addition isolation and manipulation of RNA including RNA extraction, RT-PCR, quantitative real-time PCR and single cell transcriptomics are performed routinely.

-Biochemical techniques including fractionation, immuno-affinity depletion, mass spectrometry techniques, protein enrichment and quantification  and proteomicvs analysis.   

- Ascertain, collect serum, iPSC, and RNA and clinical data on Alzheimer’s disease patients and their families.

Maintain and expand iPSC lines and differentiation into AD relevant cell types, including neurons, astrocytes, and microglia for functional and genomic characterization.

-Collect information and data through observation, experimentation and various other methods, to include operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment.

-Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment as required.

-Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.

-Supervise, train and instruct residents, interns, students or lower level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures.

-Present research findings at lab meetings and conferences.
