Essential functions (job duties): Perform scientific techniques or research protocols. Assist the Principal Investigator in designing and performing protocols. Design and perform experiments. Collect and log research data. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist other lab members with experiments as required. May mentor research assistants and students. With the assistance of the mentor, find and write research grants with the goal of obtaining additional research grant funding. Responsibilities may also include coordinating correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledging receipts of proposals, and maintaining a system to track proposals. Evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of the data using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated. Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results for professional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy. Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station. Perform other related duties as assigned. Unique duties: Leading Research Team: Oversee and guide the research team in conducting studies and implementing project objectives. - Training Junior Researchers: Provide mentorship and training to junior researchers involved in the project. - Research and Development: Lead qualitative research, designing and conducting surveys and interviews to explore barriers to LDCT screening and other cancer screening. - Data Analysis and Interpretation: Utilize qualitative and quantitative research skills to analyze data, identify key barriers and enablers of lung cancer screening, and guide intervention development. - Intervention Design: Collaborate in the design of pilot interventions, crafting culturally and linguistically tailored messages and strategies to promote LDCT screening and other cancers. - Implementation and Evaluation: Manage the deployment of the pilot intervention, participant recruitment, and assess the intervention's impact through follow-up studies. - Dissemination: Contribute to academic publications, conference presentations, and community outreach to translate research findings into actionable recommendations. - Grant Writing: Assist in drafting proposals to secure funding for the project post-pilot phase and apply for K99/R00 grants to build their own research focus. - Overseeing Students: Assist in overseeing students’ involvement in the research project and providing guidance as needed. - Lab Tasks: Help with lab tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI). - Workshops and Classes: Participate in workshops and classes to build research skills. - Mentoring Meetings: Participate in regular mentoring meetings to ensure continuous professional development. - Professional Development: Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance research skills and knowledge. - Periodic Evaluation: Participate in periodic evaluations, including self-assessment and feedback sessions. Qualifications: Education:Doctorate degree Requires advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning, predominantly intellectual in character. This knowledge is acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction. Experience Intermediate:(3 to 4 years job-related experience) Job related experience can include doctorate training. Experience performing basic research techniques, preferred. Must have distinguished themselves in research. Prior recipient of funding for research based on individual achievements. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to work independently. Ability to secure grants and funding for research. Ability to collect, analyze, summarize and interpret research findings in reports and communicate results to the field. Knowledge of and experience with current scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment. Microsoft office software skills. Preferred qualifications: PhD in social psychology, sociology, education, anthropology, or a closely related social science discipline, from an accredited institution. - Demonstrated excellence in qualitative research methodologies is crucial. The candidate should have a strong track record of designing, conducting, and analyzing qualitative studies, including but not limited to interviews, focus groups, and ethnographic observations. - Adequate experience in quantitative research methods, including survey design and statistical analysis, is required. Familiarity with mixed-methods research approaches would be advantageous. - Previous experience working with Arabic-speaking communities or similar ethnic minority groups is highly preferred. This includes a proven ability to engage effectively with community members, navigate cultural sensitivities, and conduct research that is respectful and inclusive. - Proficiency in Arabic or a willingness to learn and work in a multilingual research environment would significantly enhance the candidate’s fit for the project. - Competency in using software for qualitative data analysis (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti) and quantitative data analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) is required. The candidate should be able to manage and analyze complex datasets, derive meaningful insights, and support the development of evidence-based interventions. A deep understanding of and sensitivity to the cultural, social, and religious nuances influencing health behaviors in Arab and Chaldean communities. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present research findings effectively to both academic and non-academic audiences. Proficiency in writing for peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals is expected. - Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, community partners, and stakeholders. Leadership potential, including the ability to mentor junior researchers and contribute to building a supportive and productive research environment. - Highly motivated, able to work independently, and possess a strong commitment to advancing public health through research. - The postdoctoral fellow will join a dynamic and supportive team committed to making a tangible impact on lung cancer early detection efforts in underserved communities.
