Dr. Fernando J. Muzzio and Dr. Ravendra Singh at C-SOPS, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA) are seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Postdoctoral Associate (PDA) to work on an ongoing DARPA funded project starting September 2020 (or till the position is filled). The focus of this ongoing project is on developing the digital twin of continuous API manufacturing process. The digital twin will be used for quick design, development and scale-up of drug manufacturing processes in response of pandemics such as COVID-19. The candidates should ideally have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, or other related disciplines. The candidate should have a very strong background on process systems engineering (PSE), chemical reaction engineering, and continuous API manufacturing. Candidates with hands on experience on modeling, CFD modeling, and control of unit operations involved in continuous API manufacturing process such as reactant/solvent feeding, heat exchanger, mixing, reaction, and separation (e.g. chromatography) will be preferred. Any experience on using gPROMS, Matlab, and CFD modeling platforms will be a plus.
This project will also involve close collaborations with other researchers at Rutgers University. Position requires independent research, reporting to advisors, meeting with collaborators, supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, and public presentations. PDA will also participate in preparation of grants/fellowships/manuscripts.
