Established in 1986, EOHSI’s major objectives are to:
Advance understanding of the mechanisms by which environmental and occupational chemical exposures impact human health.
Identify and measure human environmental and occupational exposures to chemicals. Treat populations adversely affected by chemical exposures. Develop educational tools describing relative risks of chemical exposures. Contribute to public policies related to environmental and occupational chemical risks. Offer training programs for environmental health professionals.

The Institute serves as an unbiased source of expertise about environmental problems for communities, employers and governments in all areas of occupational and environmental health, toxicology and risk assessment. EOHSI members are active as advisors to international, national, state and local organizations on public health issues.

We are looking for an exceptional Post Doctoral Associate to join the Nanoscience and Advanced Materials Research Center (NAMC) and the newly established Climate Adaptive and Restorative Environments (CARE) Lab under the leadership of Dr. Philip Demokritou and Dr. Memo Cedeño-Laurent. The NAMC Lab’s mission is focused on fundamental research on the fate and bioactivity of advanced materials in the gastrointestinal tract and lung; development of cellular models to assess bio-interactions of nano/advanced materials; synthesis of metallic nanoparticles using flame spray pyrolysis; development of advanced materials from non-toxic biodegradable biopolymers for biomedical and ag-food applications using scalable techniques such as electrospray/electrospinning; development of antimicrobial platforms for food safety and airborne diseases.
The CARE Lab’s mission is to advance the development and implementation of solutions to attain equitable, healthy, and sustainable environments. As such, the candidate is expected to work on projects ranging from development and testing of a new generation of ventilation systems, advancement of indoor air quality sensors and data processing algorithms, building energy and air quality simulations, and evaluation of climate adaptation interventions in international settings. The candidate will receive close mentorship to further develop data analysis, manuscript/grant writing skills, and will have access to vast resources for environmental health research across Rutgers University.

Duties include: Contribute towards interdisciplinary research efforts in the (NAMC) Center by participating in research projects related to advanced materials and emerging contaminants. Contribute towards interdisciplinary research efforts in the Climate Adaptive and Restorative Environments (CARE) Lab by participating in research projects. Analyze Data and prepare manuscripts. Participate in collaborative grant preparation with other investigators at Rutgers and other collaborative academic Institutions.
