Post Doctoral Associate
Classification Title:

Post Doctoral Associate

Job Description:

The University of Florida, Department of Pharmacodynamics is seeking to hire a Post Doctoral Associate in the lab of Dr. Anutosh Chakraborty.

Research focus of the Chakraborty laboratory: Obesity and obesity-induced metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) are significant health concerns. A subset of MASLD patients develop liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. A complete knowledge of the mechanisms that cause these diseases is lacking, which hinders the development of safer therapeutic strategies for their treatment. The Chakraborty lab aims to understand mechanisms that regulate the development and progression of these diseases. Using novel, lab-generated mouse models and human patient samples, the lab identifies and validates novel targets in obesity and MASLD and subsequently develops pharmacological tools that ameliorate these diseases by targeting the novel proteins. The lab uses diverse techniques such as proteomics, transcriptomics, lipidomics, cell and molecular biology and pharmacology in cell lines, primary cells and mouse models of obesity and MASLD. Prior work from the lab discovered the inositol hexakisphosphate kinase-1 (IP6K1) and the E3 ubiquitin ligase Ube4A as novel targets in obesity and MASLD (Cell, 2010; JCI, 2016; Mol. Metab., 2016; Biol Rev Camb Philos Soc. 2018; Mol. Metab. 2021; J. Med. Chem., 2022; Biomolecules, 2023; Mol. Metab. 2023).

Job Duties: The Postdoc will be responsible for independently designing and conducting experiments. They will independently obtain, store and organize data and generate figures and write methodologies for manuscripts and grant applications, and present the data at the lab meetings and conferences. The Postdoc will mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the lab and will collaborate in and outside the lab. This position will include working on weekends and holidays when the project requires it.
