Department: Cell Biology and Neuroscience Facility: Science Center Reports to: Benjamin Rood SUMMARY: The candidate will conduct independent basic scientific research projects in the field of behavioral neuroscience with oversight from Assistant Professor, Dr. Benjamin Rood. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. + Will perform behavioral experiments to understand how neural circuits function during social interactions. + Will perform in vivo experiments to identify neural circuits contributing to alterations in social, motivational, and cognitive behaviors in transgenic mouse models. + This includes the following techniques: + Rodent surgeries (stereotaxic and gonadal surgeries) + Complex data analysis for large in vivo behavior and physiology data sets + Histology and immunohistochemistry + Will independently conduct scientific research projects + Will collect, organize, analyze and interpret data + Will write and summarize experiments and methods into manuscript form and perform activities associated with preparation and submission of papers + High priority will be given to candidates with experience and interest in the field of behavioral neuroscience, particularly with a focus on social behavior and motivational neural networks. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: This position requires a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Neuroscience or related field. The successful candidate must have extensive experience with animal research, including surgery and behavioral assessment. The candidate must have a scientific record, written and verbal communication skills, sound analytical and organizational skills, and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
