Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job The Department of Forensic Science is seeking to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in research, mentor students, and provide instructional support. The individual selected for the position will report directly to the department chair and will work closely with faculty and graduate students in the department. The fellow is expected to attend all department meetings and events, including faculty meetings. Educational Requirements for the Position Candidates must have a B.S. in forensic chemistry, chemistry or analytical chemistry, biology, biomedical sciences, health sciences, or forensic science and a Ph.D. in forensic science, chemistry, analytical chemistry, biology, genetics, biomedical or health sciences. Experience Required for the Position The successful candidate shall have a proven record with respect to analytical research, method development, scientific writing, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations at scientific meetings. Experience in an analytical chemistry, molecular biology, forensic chemistry or forensic biology laboratory is required. The candidate(s) shall be familiar with modern instrumental techniques in theory, operation, and troubleshooting.

A successful forensic chemistry candidate will have working experience with instrumentation including but not limited to gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS), and liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS),automated DNA extraction systems, liquid handling platforms, quantitative real-time PCR systems, thermal cyclers, capillary electrophoresis genetic analyzer, and next generation sequencing systems.

Prior employment in forensic science, teaching experience, training and familiarity with a learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) is highly desired. The successful candidate shall have a strong desire to mentor students and actively participate in grantsmanship, instructional delivery, and academic programming. Other Requirements for the Position The Post-Doctoral Fellowship is a continuing one-year assignment.
