Through this community of healers, scientists, and scholars, Rutgers is equipped as never before to transform lives. Posting Summary Rutgers The State University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Brain Health Institute of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The incumbent will work as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of the Brain Health Institute on a project dedicated to investigating the roles of macrophages and fractalkine signaling in noise-or age-related hearing loss, cochlear synaptopathy and neuropathy. The research involves using genetic mouse models, breeding, weaning, and genotyping, auditory function assessment, tissue harvesting and microdissection, organ culture, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging of fixed and live tissue, flow cytometry, cell sorting, sequencing, bioinformatics, inner-ear delivery, gene or peptide therapy, basic cellular and molecular biology. The incumbent will possess an excellent record of research achievements and expertise in one of the following areas: Inner ear biology, auditory neuroscience, systems physiology, electrophysiology, and cellular, molecular, and computational neuroscience. Opportunities are available to present scientific data at local, national, and international meetings and grant writing mentorship for independent positions. 

Among the key duties of this position are the following: Perform research that will involve managing various mouse colonies, noise exposures, hearing function testing, isolation and microdissections of tissues, multi-label immunohistochemistry, advanced imaging of fixed and live tissue, cellular and molecular biology techniques, cell, and tissue culturing, proteomics, bioinformatics, inner ear delivery of small molecules, genes, or peptides. Maintain accurate records of individual experimentation and research. Analyze, organize, and present data at laboratory meetings and major scientific meetings. Write and submit abstracts for scientific meetings. Write and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Mentor and train undergraduate and graduate trainees in the lab.
