Description

A team of researchers in the Department of Epidemiology at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health conducts research aimed at understanding the epidemiology of tuberculosis (TB) and improving prevention, care, and treatment. Specific focus areas include TB transmission, drug-resistant TB, and TB/HIV co-infection. The group collaborates with partners at other U.S. institutions as well as at international sites in South Africa, Ethiopia, Brazil, the country of Georgia, India, and the Philippines.

We are seeking candidates with a doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field with strong statistical analysis and programming skills. Substantive knowledge of infectious diseases and transmission is preferred. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong analytic and scientific writing skills; and an enthusiasm for inter-disciplinary engagement.

Research activities will include working with national and international teams on designing and implementing research studies and protocols and analyzing data collected from observational studies. Primary responsibilities include conducting analyses and developing peer-reviewed research publications for recently completed studies. In addition, the post-doctoral fellow will be engaged in developing new R01-level research proposals; drafting and implementing study protocols and data collection tools for newly funded studies; and mentoring masters and doctoral students.

The post-doctoral fellow will work with faculty and collaborate with a diverse group of researchers and play a pivotal role in advancing tuberculosis research as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities:

• Design, plan, and execute data analyses to address research questions.
• Publication and Dissemination: Prepare and submit research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Aid faculty in the development of new research projects and submission of grant applications to NIH (R01, R21, etc.).
• Present research results at national and international conferences.
• Collaborate with other members of the research team, fostering a multidisciplinary approach.
• Engage in collaborative initiatives within the institution and with external partners.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students and junior researchers.
• Foster a positive and inclusive research environment.


Additional Position Details:

Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts and funding proposals under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Positions are temporary, 1-year appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, with potential for renewal if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field with a strong background in conducting statistical analyses.
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
