Position description The Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Allergy, Immunology, & Rheumatology is seeking a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. for a post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Caroline Kuo. Applicants need to have a Ph.D. preferably in the fields of molecular biology, immunology, or a related field. The laboratory of Dr. Caroline Kuo focuses on developing approaches of gene therapy of human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) for the treatment of inborn errors of immunity. Specifically, her research revolves around both viral vector mediated gene therapy and CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene editing of HSC for the treatment of rare immune deficiencies. In addition, the lab investigates methods by which gene modification can be improved in the most primitive HSC. The ultimate goal is to translate ongoing projects to early phase clinical trials. Dr. Kuo has an excellent track record of productive research mentorship for research associates, post-doctoral, and medical fellows and collaborations over the last several years. Qualifications: • Ph.D. in fields of molecular biology, immunology, or a related field • Solid understanding of common laboratory approaches to biomarker analyses and molecular biology • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and quickly adapt to new tasks • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with computational and data scientists • Ability to work independently Skills: • Very comfortable extracting protein, RNA and DNA • Sterile technique • Meticulous laboratory technique • Experience in Next-Generation Sequencing highly desired • Experience in bioinformatic analyses highly desired • Ability to maintain laboratory notebook and data in an organized manner • Comfortable working with human pathogens and samples including blood, urine and more Duties: • Independently conduct research as determined with Principal Investigator • Writing of scientific manuscripts, abstracts and other supporting documentation • Participate in laboratory meetings, educational sessions, specific safety training sessions • Provide mentorship to other members of the lab • Ensure that laboratory is up-to-date on all safety regulations Interest applicants may apply through this link: https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF08734 The posted UC salary scales https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2023-24-academic-salary-scales.html set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment.
