The LEAD Center is focused upon and investigates the developmental origins of health and disease. LEAD scientists seek to understand the causes of disease, and ultimately translate these findings into preventive actions. The Neurobehavioral Epidemiology Fellowship is a unique training program designed for scientists with a doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Clinical Science (or allied field) interested in studying neurodevelopmental and behavioral outcomes throughout the lifetime in the context social, medical, epigenetic, genetic, SDOH and environmental exposures. The two-year fellowship includes specific and focused support for the development of a research career within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. Trainees will have access to previously developed and developing data sets (Healthy Start, Exploring Perinatal Outcomes in Children Study (EPOCH), Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS), Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO)) as well as the opportunity to propose and develop their own projects. The fellowship will provide the opportunity to receive mentorship in the conceptualization, operational planning, execution, analysis and communication of research questions and results. The multidisciplinary faculty for the fellowship includes epidemiologists with a range of interests and skills (epigenetics, neuroimaging, microbiome, environmental exposures, behavioral exposures, etc.) and well as neurodevelopmental specialists providing a rich exposure to a range of interests, skills and on-going research. There is the opportunity to become engaged in training and supervision.The fellow in Neurobehavioral Epidemiology is expected to develop and execute a mentored research project based upon available data during year one of fellowship. The longer term, second year goal is mentored completion of a grant application with the anticipation that this may be an extension of the initial project, leading to continued efforts in understanding neurobehavioral outcome of exposures. Additionally, the fellow will be asked to contribute to other LEAD Center academic projects and collaborations, which may include literature reviews, data analysis, grant and manuscript preparation, mentoring of trainees and participation in on-going seminars. Administrative, as well as academic support will be provided (e.g. guidance in completing and reading grant documents).
