Post Doctoral Research Fellow - Biology
**Boston College Introduction** Founded in 1863, Boston College is a Jesuit, Catholic university located six miles from downtown Boston with an enrollment of 9,484 full-time undergraduates and 5,250 graduate and professional students. Ranked 35 among national universities, Boston College has 888 full-time and 1,281 FTE faculty, 2,711 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $1.4 billion, and an endowment in excess of $3.5 billion. **Job Description** Postdoctoral Research Fellow FTE Range $65,000 - $74,665 based on experience A postdoctoral position is available in the Das Lab at Boston College to investigate the fundamentals of cell polarization. Our lab is interested in understanding cell cycle dependent regulation of cell polarity using the fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe as a model system. Cell shape establishment and maintenance is critical to cell function and survival. Our research indicates that in fission yeast the pattern of cell growth and polarity responds to different cell cycle stages and environmental conditions. This project will investigate how cells respond to different cell cycle stages or environments to establish their pattern of growth. More details about our research and recent publications are available at our website www.daslabpombe.com. For this research we will use yeast genetics, live-cell imaging, protein dynamics, in vitro reconstitution, quantitative microscopy and mathematical modeling approaches. Our lab is well equipped with a dedicated deconvolution microscope and a TIRF microscope. In addition, the Imaging core at Boston College has several state-of-the-art microscopes, such as a Leica spinning disc confocal microscope, Zeiss Airyscan and the SoRa confocal microscopes with super-resolution capabilities for live-cell imaging. Other core facilities include a nanofabrication, bioinformatics server, mass spectrometry, flowcytometry, NMR and X-ray crystallography facility. The following are examples of typical duties, but other duties may also be assigned. + Development of the research project including planning and designing experiments, data analysis. + Presentation of project results at meetings and seminars. + Publication of high-quality research articles. + May be responsible for training staff, graduate assistants, or student employees. **Requirements** + A PhD degree in Bioscience or related field is required. + Candidates with experience in protein and/or membrane biochemistry, and biophysics are especially encouraged to apply. + Familiarity with live-cell microscopy or yeast cell biology is helpful but not essential. + Candidates from historically-excluded communities are particularly encouraged to apply. Please attach the following electronic documents to the application: Cover letter, resume, and the names, email addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three references. Please reach out to Dr. Maitreyi Das for additional information, Maitreyi.Das@bc.edu. **Closing Statement** Boston College offers a broad and competitive range of benefits depending on your job classification eligibility: + Tuition remission for Employees + Tuition remission for Spouses and Children who meet eligibility requirements + Generous Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance + Low-Cost Life Insurance + Eligibility for both University-Funded 401k and Employer-Sponsored 403b Retirement Plans + Paid Holidays Annually + Generous Sick and Vacation Pay + Additional benefits can be found on https://www.bc.edu/employeehandbook Boston College conducts pre-employment background checks as part of the hiring process.
