Post Doctoral Researcher, Biswas-Fiss Laboratory Job no: 501294 College / VP Area:College of Health Sciences Work type: Staff Location: Newark Categories: Research & Laboratory, Full Time Salary Structure (https://www.udel.edu/faculty-staff/human-resources/total-rewards/compensation/salary-structure/) CONTEXT OF THE JOB The Biswas-Fiss Laboratory of Translational Genetics, located in theAmmon Pinizzotto Biopharmaceutical Innovation Center at the University of Delaware, within the Department of Medical and Molecular Sciences at the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences, seeks a candidate for aPostdoctoral Positionthat can contribute to the mechanistic understanding of the cellular, molecular, and genetic mechanisms that govern ABCA4-linked retinal degenerative diseases (IRDs). MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES This position's primary responsibilities are supporting studies related to the molecular genetics of inherited macular degeneration and translating this information into genotype-phenotype correlations. ​Our research aims to utilize in vitro, in vivo ,and computational tools to translate and reclassify the consequences of genetic variants of unknown significance (VUS). This work will aid in the development of targeted therapies and help direct patients to appropriate clinical trials. Specific duties include but are not limited to: + Workingin vitro,in vivoand computational models of disease. + Collection, preparation, and analysis of research data. Spearhead studies focused on the consequences of ABCA4 genetic variants using ACMG/AMP-based metrics. + Using appropriate biostatistical tools, correlating genetic, protein structure, and functional data with clinical profiles. + Employing computational tools to evaluate the consequences of ABCA4 genetic variants. + Employ and/or develop machine learning algorithms + With the PI, interpret analyzed data to prepare for publication. + Willingness to develop and implement new laboratory techniques when needed to test hypotheses and approach research questions. + Writing research articles as first author and participating in publications as co-author. + Presentation of scientific work at research conferences/symposiums. + Working with basic science and clinical collaborators, including formulation of reports. + Assisting with grant preparation and reporting but is not responsible for generating grant funds. + Supervising and assisting with the training of graduate/undergraduate students and other lab personnel to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency. + Participating in research training programs as needed. Operating and maintaining equipment and instruments. QUALIFICATIONS + Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computational Biology or a related Life Science background with a strong molecular biology focus. + A strong publication record in reputed peer-reviewed journals. + Prior experience working within vitroandin vivodisease models, human genetics, computational biology, and complex large data analyses is a plus. + Strong intellectual creativity, an ability to develop and lead projects independently, with a strong ability to work in a collaborative environment. + Excellent scientific presentation and writing skills. + Passionate about biomedical research and committed to pursuing innovative research questions for the benefit of the patients impacted by ABCA4-associated blinding disorders.
