Job DescriptionGDIT's Military Health team is hiring a Post Doctorial Scientist (Bacteriology/Wound Infections) supporting the Naval Medical Research Center Infectious Disease Directorate (NMRC IDD). You will be part of the NMRC IDD mission to research and develop countermeasures to protect Navy and Marine Corps personnel against infectious agents of military importance. This position would provide support to the NMRC IDD Wound Infections Department by carrying out research projects on multidrug resistant bacteria causing traumatic wound infections and the development of medical countermeasures.HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:Develops and conducts protocol-driven scientific research addressing various aspects of military medicine, including, but not limited to host-pathogen interactions, wound infections, immunology, and development of medical countermeasures.Provides support in writing protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human use protocols, technical reports, final reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.Uses independent judgment to perform basic to advanced bacteriology and immunology procedures to include, bacteriology isolation techniques, staining slides and microscope work, tissue culture, flow cytometry, serological assays, and molecular biology techniques.Prepares experimental design, set up experimental equipment, and aid in training and development of junior staff for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols.Provides support in development of establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis.Create written lab reports, data slides and scientific briefings in support of departmental briefings and professional conference presentations.WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:Education: Must have PhD in life sciences with preference in microbiology and bacteriologyRequired Experience: Technical knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology, and current research technologies and practices involving animal studies (preclinical research)Experience with wound infections, infectious diseases, bacteriologyExperience developing and supporting research associated with host-pathogen interactionsLocation: Onsite in Silver Spring MDSecurity Clearance Level: Ability to obtain a favorable NACLC T3 security investigationUS Citizenship Required: Must be a US citizen WHAT GDIT CAN OFFER YOU: Challenging work that makes a real impact on the world around you Internal mobility team dedicated to helping you own your career 401K with company match Diverse, highly collaborative teamsProfessional development, education assistance, certification and training opportunities#militaryhealth#MilitaryHealthGDITjobs#GDITHealth
