The Systems Assessment Center (SAC) within Argonne National Laboratory has a Postdoctoral position open for a candidate with expertise and experience in energy systems analysis, technoeconomic analysis (TEA), or environmental life cycle analysis (LCA). The candidate should possess a good understanding of various energy systems, including applications in transportation, power, industry, and building sectors. SAC is recognized globally by governments and industry with its models and analysis spanning environmental, economic and social assessment of conventional and advanced energy technologies and systems.

The candidate will evaluate energy and emissions data associated with fuel and chemical production technologies from U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) database, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency database (e.g., GHGRP, NEI), field data, process simulations, industry reports, the technical literature, and from interactions with other national laboratories, academia, industry, and stakeholders. The candidate will work with researchers within the SAC to expand the GREET model with the new data to enhance and expand the model’s capability of assessing the life-cycle energy use and emissions associated with energy systems, including sustainability of various energy products, services and chemicals.

Position Requirements

PhD degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, or related fields.Experience in modeling and analysis of energy systems with a strong background in basic engineering principles.Experience in sustainability and economic assessment.Knowledge in industrial processes and emerging technologies for the production of fuels, hydrogen, chemical, materials, etc.; knowledge in technologies of carbon dioxide capture, transportation and storage. .Skills in computer programming such as Python, MS Excel, Excel VBA, MATLAB, mathematical optimization tools.Skilled oral and written communication skills at levels of the organization.Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive.
