Postdoctoral Appointee - Mathematical Modeling of Solid-State Batteries
The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee, who under the guidance of a supervisor, conducts research on mathematical modeling of solid-state batteries. The project involves understanding and describing the interplay between the electrochemical and mechanical processes at metal-anode/solid-electrolyte and cathode/solid-electrolyte interfaces. The successful candidate will develop computational models at the mesoscale or macroscale level using the principles of mass, momentum, and energy balance, to describe morphology changes, dendrite growth, side reactions, delamination processes etc. in hard and soft materials. The successful candidate will also collaborate extensively with experimental (electrochemical characterization, synchrotron analysis) and theoretical groups (specializing in atomistic simulations, DFT, AIMD) within Argonne National Lab, and other Labs and Universities in the US and across the world. The successful candidate will be expected to develop mesoscale computational models, implement them, run simulations, analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, present papers at scientific meetings, and prepare reports, presentations, and papers for group meetings or meeting sponsor reporting requirements. **Position Requirements** + Recently completed Ph. D Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Electrochemistry with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent + Deep understanding of electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering, and mechanical engineering + Strong skills of developing computational models using the principles of mass, momentum, and energy balance + Some experience in proposing, planning, and designing experiments + Considerable knowledge of processing and analyzing results + Considerable skill in formulating scientific problems + Considerable skill in written and oral communication + Proven desire to work in a team-based environment + Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork **Job Family** Postdoctoral Family **Job Profile** Postdoctoral Appointee **Worker Type** Long-Term (Fixed Term) **Time Type** Full time _As an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
