Postdoctoral Appointee - Researcher
Advanced Grid Modeling-Planning, Operations, & Controls group at Argonne National Laboratory's Center for Energy, Environmental, and Economic Systems Analysis is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher passionate about development of scientific software and using it to conduct transmission and distribution system analysis. Candidates will be required to work in the following areas: + Perform modeling and analysis of transmission systems (steady state and dynamics). + Mostly using PSS/E python interface. + Develop, implement and validate state and output feedback control. Additionally, candidates will: + Give seminars and prepare journal articles, technical reports, and presentations for conferences and workshops. + Support open-source software development efforts for DOE projects. **Position Requirements** + Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (typically completed within the last 0-5 years) in Electrical Engineering + Fundamental understanding of power system modeling, numerical methods and linear control theory. + Familiarity with PSS/E. + Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment. + Problem-solving and analytical skills. + Experience publishing in high-impact journals and assisting in proposal development. + Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork. + Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive. + This position requires an on-site presence at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois five days per week. Preferred Qualifications: + Understanding of at least one programming language. + Familiarity with version control (Git) and containers (Docker/Podman). + Familiarity with DER modeling and OpenDSS.
