Postdoctoral Appointee - X-ray nanoprobe
**Development and applications of the next-generation X-ray nanoprobe** The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to develop the next-generation scanning X-ray nanoprobe with cryogenic capabilities. The goal is to fully utilize the recently upgraded ultra-bright APS-U source and achieve 2D/3D elemental and structural analysis with a 10 nm spatial resolution for biological and biomedical studies. In addition to life sciences, other applications will include materials science and environmental studies. The candidate will play a key role in instrumentation assembly, commissioning, and performance simulation and analysis. Moreover, the candidate will actively contribute to the operation of the current beamline and establish collaborations with current and future users to produce cutting-edge scientific results. **Position Requirements** + Ph.D. degree with the focus on mechanical engineering, material characterization, applied physics, bioimaging or related disciplines completed within the last three years or is soon to be completed + Considerable experience in at least two of the following fields: X-ray microscopy, engineering design, cryogenic microscopy, synchrotron instrumentation + Strong trouble-shooting skills + Considerable experience with programming and software tools such as python and git + Experience with cryogenic microscopy and cryogenic biological sample preparation is a plus + Demonstrated experience working successfully as part of a team in a collaborative and multidisciplinary scientific environment + Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators and ability to work in a team environment. + Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork. **Job Family** Postdoctoral Family **Job Profile** Postdoctoral Appointee **Worker Type** Long-Term (Fixed Term) **Time Type** Full time _As an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
