Postdoctoral Associate

The Vargas-Muñiz Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech seeks a Postdoctoral Associate in Medical Mycology and Fungal Cell Biology. The Vargas-Muñiz Lab studies the human fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus. The Vargas-Muñiz Lab uses genetics, cell biology, microscopy, proteomics, immunological, and in vivo approaches to understand how A. fumigatus causes infection and responds to antifungals. The lab's goal is to provide fundamental insight that could guide the development of new antifungal interventions. This position is for onsite work.

The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to contribute to an NIAID-funded project. This project aims to understand how the fungal septin cytoskeleton contributes to the fungal response to anti-cell wall drugs. Specifically, the candidate will explore the possible interaction of the septin cytoskeleton with other stress signaling pathways.

Candidates should submit (1) A statement describing their career goals, previous research, and research interests, (2) a CV detailing relevant work experience and publications, and (3) a list of three references with their contact information. This position is for at least one year, with the possibility of contract renewal contingent upon satisfactory annual reviews. The position will remain open until filled.
